Kauai

Kauai is the northernmost of the six main Hawaiian islands, just a short flight away from the state’s capital of Honolulu on the neighbor island of Oahu. Also known as the “Garden Isle”, Kauai is home to picture-perfect white sand beaches, lush nature trails and tropical rainforests. Located near the center of the island is Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain called the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Measuring about 10 miles (16 km) long and up to 3,000 (900 m) feet deep, the canyon’s multi-colored rock walls are simply stunning. On the island’s north shore is the spectacular Na Pali Coast, often hailed the “jewel of Kauai.” No road leads along this remote stretch of shoreline, but the Kalalau hiking trail is a fun adventure, as is sailing along this coast or taking a helicopter tour. Kauai is also home to the only navigable river in Hawaii. Take a kayak tour up the Wailua River and stop at Fern Grotto along the way. This is a natural fern-fringed lava cave surrounded by an abundance to tropical foliage. There is a lot to do on Kauai. Here are some of the highlights:
