New Covid-19 Testing Requirements for International Travel

As of January 26, 2021, a negative Covid-19 test is required for all passengers returning to the United States from abroad. That includes those flying on a private jet or a charter flight (we checked).

Still, if you want to avoid the hassle of taking a Covid-19 test prior to boarding your flight home, we have a solution: U.S. Virgin Islands!

USVI is ranked #1 in Best Caribbean Beaches and both St. John and St. Thomas are full of beautiful vistas, water activities, dining experiences, etc. Best part is that as territories of the United States, the USVI are not considered an international destination and as such, a Covid-19 test is not required to return to the states!

*NOTE: traveling to the USVI does require a negative Covid-19 test taken within 5 days of landing. We make this easy to obtain due to our partnerships with a physician in Florida who can provide our clients with in-home PCR testing kits with a 24-hour turnaround time. In addition, we also work with a medical practice out of North Carolina who can assist you with testing via video conferencing.

Also, don’t overlook destination spots within the states! These easy access places like South Walton, FL and Kiawah Island, SC are beautiful and convenient.

If you don’t want to be limited in destination choices, we assure you from personal experience the trip is well worth the testing process! After all, it is just one extra step and our team is able to set you up with reliable Covid-19 testing accommodations that will ensure a smooth return to the U.S. This could mean home-testing kits or testing teams that come to your villa. Read on for more information about the requirements.

New Testing Protocol

Within three days of your return flight to the U.S, you must receive either the PCR or the rapid antigen test, and bring written or electronic proof of your negative results to the airline.

We recommend the antigen test as it has a faster turnaround time and is inexpensive. If you have recovered from Covid-19 within the past three months, your positive test result and a health care provider’s note clearing you to fly is recommended by the CDC instead of a negative test.

American Airlines has developed a mobile health passport in the form of its newest app: VeriFLY. The app ensures you meet the entry requirements for return home and expedites the approval process at the airport.

Children under the age of 2 are exempt from these testing procedures. However, other than that, exceptions will be very rare. Those who have been vaccinated will still need a negative test result to fly, and in countries where testing capabilities are lacking, travel to a second country with the necessary testing facilities is required before returning to the U.S.

Covid-19 Specific Insurance

We often recommend travel insurance to our clients and it is beneficial for travelers when countries require travel insurance. It can be included in your travel health visa and costs an additional $60 on average, but always check! You would be able to use this insurance if you tested positive while in this country and needed to go into quarantine. The payment can be upwards of $500 per day.

My team and I can help you enjoy the best travel plans even amidst Covid-19! With our full-service abilities, the new testing requirement will be minimal hassle for you. If preferred, we can even choose U.S territories or a destination within the United States to completely bypass the international travel regulations.

Warmly,
