When and when not to visit the Caribbean

Plan your Caribbean getaway with confidence! Learn about the best times to visit, including the dry and wet seasons, and how to navigate hurricane risks.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Visiting During Low Season (May 1 – Dec 15)

Low Season in the Caribbean

Benefits of low season include fewer crowds, lower rates, and calmer water. If you’re planning a yacht charter trip, low season is a great time!

However, low season also brings less pleasant weather with more heat, humidity, rain, and (the worst) mosquitoes.

(Some locations/resorts may have slightly different dates. Be sure to ask when low season begins).

Why High Season is Ideal for Caribbean Travel (Jan 3 – Apr 30)

High Season Weather in the Caribbean

High season offers the best weather! Trade winds blow in, and along with a refreshing breeze, they keep the bugs away. Temperatures are in the low 70s to high 80s, with much lower humidity.

However, high season also means rougher waters, more crowds, and higher rates.

Tip: Low Season Rates, High Season Weather

The first and last weeks of low season often offer great weather as they transition into high season. Consider booking these weeks to enjoy high season weather at low season rates!

Weeks:
May 1 – May 8
Dec 7 – Dec 15

Celebrating the Holidays in the Caribbean (Dec 15 – Jan 2)

Festive Season Celebrations

Caribbean destinations have unique festivities and special ways of celebrating the holidays, including parades, traditional dishes, and fireworks!

Expect higher rates, more crowds, and often, more families celebrating during this time.

Understanding Hurricane Risks in the Caribbean (Aug 26 – Oct 31)

The last weekend in August through the end of October is hurricane season in the Caribbean. If you plan to visit during these months, we highly recommend trip insurance, as your vacation may need to be canceled or rescheduled.

This estimate is conservative, so after November 1, the weather clears up.

My recent trip to Costa Rica added another jacuzzi to my list of all-time favorites. This uniquely shaped jacuzzi is at Villa Punto de Vista in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica!
