When and when not to visit the Caribbean

The Caribbean is often considered a beautiful year-round destination, but we’ve found there are some times that appeal more than others, and a few months you will want to avoid all-together.

We have low season, high season, and festive season and can help you book for all of them. Read on for the advantages/disadvantages of traveling to the Caribbean during these times.

Low Season (May 1 – Dec 15)

Benefits of low season include less crowds, lower rates, and calmer water. If you are looking to do a yacht charter trip, low season is a great time!

Unfortunately low season also brings less pleasant weather with more heat, humidity, rain, and (the worst) mosquitoes.

(Some locations/resorts may have slightly different dates. Make sure to ask when low season begins).

High Season (Jan 3 – Apr 30)

High season has the best weather! Trade winds are in, and along with a nice breeze, blow the bugs away. Temperatures are in the low 70s to high 80s and there is much less humidity.

Unfortunately high season also means rougher water, more crowds, and higher rates.

Tip: Low Season Rates, High Season Weather

The first and last weeks of low season often have great weather as they skirt on the edge of high season. Consider booking these weeks to enjoy high season weather at a low season rate!

Weeks:
May 1 – May 8
Dec 7 – Dec 15

Festive Season (Dec 15 – Jan 2)

Caribbean destinations have unique festivities and special ways of celebrating the holidays including parades, traditional dishes, and fireworks!

There will be higher rates, more crowds, and oftentimes more families celebrating.

Hurricane Season (Aug 26 – Oct 31)

The last weekend in August to end of October is hurricane season in the Caribbean. If clients would like to visit during these months then we highly suggest trip insurance with the understanding that their vacation might have to be cancelled/moved to later dates.

This is a conservative estimate so come November 1, all is in the clear.

My recent trip to Costa Rica has added another jacuzzi to my list of all time favorites. This uniquely shaped jacuzzi is at Villa Punto de Vista in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica!
